nothing is compatible with windows ME i can only have mozilla firefox 2.0 on it and i can only have internet explorer 5.0 on it. i cant even do my taxes on turbo tax because it says that i dont meet the minimal requirements. is there any way i can get a different operating system on my computer for free like a download or something?
Sorry to say but your sysrem is too old. It is time to spring for a new one. There are decent priced laptops and netbooks today for under $500 (for laptops) and under $300 (for netbooks).
Desktops are cheap too.
If finances are a restricting element I suggest you go to and klook at refurbished computers. Youcan save a lot and some were never opened or used.
Windows vista no it is not free.
Your mozilla firefox free download for vistacomputer will not meet the systems requirements to run windows vista. Or will it run windows 7. Your computer may qualify for windows xp but it is not free. The only thing that is free is Linux an 100% legal. The best is Xubuntu 9.04 or 8.10 it will work on 256 RAM with hard drive space at least 4GB that is the only thing you can get. And it has great security lots of games. Plenty of applications for video editing software.
If your PC is running Windows ME then chances are your hardware will not support Vista or Windows 7. If you did manage to load one of those OS's it would not run well. You either need to go with a Linux distribution or Windows XP. Many Linux distributions are free downloads but they will probably not run yomozilla firefox free download for vistaur Turbo tax software.
It sounds like you just use your PC for simple programs and internet(no real gaming). My recommendation is to replace your PC with something new and inexpensive.

Vista was an early release and isn't nearly as good.
"buy.com", or "newegg.com" has some decent prices, but free? I just don't see how.
Keep you eyes open, but be leary of a deal that looks too good.
the problem with an ME computer is it wont phisycally be able to run one of the newer operating systems, you would really need to buy a new pc
