Model: Sony Digital Satellite Receiver V.8.94, used for picking up DirectTV...it's the one with the SIM cards (we used football cards). Wondering if this thing can work again without having to buy a new box. It has a seriel port for data transfer so thought you might be able to load some software to get free satellite.
Although it was possible years ago using the football card and others, those cards will NOT work anymore regardless of what anyone tells you. You must have a newly activated P5 card from DTV and there is no hacking it anymore.

Your service is activated with the sim card. It contains all the info i.e. serial # , features ect. There are pfree satellite receiver softwareirates who program them with no guarantee. The reason is Direct T.V is aware of this and will randomly change the data stream format making yours useless. Some pirates will tell you they have a universal " code " and it may work for a year maybe more. But one day when you least expect it........ If you understand the magnetic strip info on the card and have the equipment to read and write theses cards well.........Also be aware that Direct T.V will also find unauthorized users thru the phone line so don't plug it in.
